Project Runway Australia’s Players

I admit it, I’m not familiar with Project Runway Australia host, Kristy Hinze.

Apparently, the 28-year-old Queensland model appeared in Australian Vogue when she was just 14.

Interesting, random FYI: she’s dating 63-year-old Texan billionaire, Jim Clark, the founder of Netscape. In a little blurb found on the web, it says:

In a recent interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly, she revealed “I never thought I was going to date an older man when I first met him”, but she was attracted to him because he is “truly, incredibly rich”.

Um…yeah. I’m not going to say anything else about that.

Like on Project Runway Canada, where Iman plays double duty as host and judge, Hinze will also be playing judge, alongside fashion buyer and trend forecaster Sarah Gale and fashion editor and creative director Jayson Brundson.

Brundson was most recently the creative director of Aussie fashion brand, Morrissey.

Wedding gown couture designer Henry Roth steps into the mentor’s shoes — and really, when it comes to mentors, I don’t think anybody comes close to the divine Tim Gunn.

Brian Bailey of Project Runway Canada did a respectable job because I felt like he truly mentored. But Ben de Lisi of Project Catwalk clearly played favourites and was unfairly critical towards some designers while overly helpful with others.

That does not a good mentor make.

Let’s see what Roth’s like — I have my fingers crossed that he’s better than Ben de Lisi, though I get the sense that he’s not as sedate and austere as either Tim Gunn or Brian Bailey.

In an interview that appears on the official site (which is loads better than the Project Catwalk site and is more in the vein of the Project Runway and Project Runway Canada sites…though, a quick inspection reveals a few text mistakes — sorry, it’s part of what I do for a living, so I notice these things), Roth says:

I have been born in fashion. I come from three generations of fashion in my family. Project Runway Australia just does not get better when it comes to fashion and design and the makings of fresh new talent in the country. Am I excited? No, I am beyond excited!! I am over the moon.  To be given the opportunity to lend my experience to help with the directing our future designers of tomorrow is huge. It is an enormous responsibility and a phenomenal privilege.
